Performing the operation with the participation of 30 specialists
He stated that the surgical team, led by Dr. Moatasem Al-Zoubi, a consultant in pediatric neurosurgery, decided to carry out the operation in (5) stages in which (30) consultants, specialists, and nursing and technical staff in several specialties, including anesthesia, intensive care, advanced radiology, and plastic surgery, will participate, indicating that the operation is expected to take (24 hours).
His Excellency said: "Based on multidisciplinary medical evaluation and careful diagnostic studies, the risk rate reaches 50% due to the medical challenges associated with the condition, with the possibility of severe neurological complications that may cause disability by up to 60%."Pointing out that a consultation was made with one of the medical centers specialized in such cases, and their views were consistent with the medical team’s assessment in terms of the degree of seriousness of the operation and the high level of risks associated with it, and the case was explained in detail to the parents of the twins, who expressed their understanding of the surgical team’s plan.
He pointed out that this operation is number (70) within the Saudi Program for Conjoined Twins, which since 1990 AD has been able to care for (157) twins from (28) countries in (5) countries. Continents around the world.
Dr. Al-Rabiah, in his name and on behalf of the members of the medical and surgical team, expressed his thanks and appreciation to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, and to His Highness the faithful Crown Prince – may God protect them – for the support, interest and continuous follow-up that the program receives, asking God Almighty to crown the operation with success, and to grant the twins health and wellness.
