The International Date Palm Conference announces a roadmap for agricultural innovation, sustainability and food security
Abu Dhabi, 30 April / WAM / The Eighth International Date Palm Conference recommended the establishment of a unified international platform for date palm data, production, research and pests to develop new varieties that are more tolerant to drought and salinity and resistant to pests, expand the use of artificial intelligence and smart agriculture in the management of palm farms, and enhance international cooperation to combat the red palm weevil and exchange experiences.
At the conclusion of its work today, the conference recommended increasing the efficiency of water use through modern irrigation systems and smart technologies, and investing palm waste in value-added products within the circular economy.
Conference participants stressed the importance of supporting industrial innovation to develop new food and health products from dates and empowering women and youth in date value chains and agricultural entrepreneurship, in addition to establishing an international research network linking universities and centers specialized in date palms and adopting international sustainability standards to raise the competitiveness of dates in global markets.
For his part, Professor Dr. Abdul Wahab Al-Bukhari Zaid, Secretary-General of the Khalifa International Award for Date Palm and Agricultural Innovation, confirmed that the strategic recommendations issued by the conference aim to develop the date palm sector and enhance its sustainability at the national, regional and international levels.
For its part, the General Secretariat of the Khalifa International Award for Date Palm and Agricultural Innovation extended its highest congratulations and congratulations to the country’s wise leadership, stressing that this success embodies the forward-looking vision of the wise leadership in supporting sustainable agriculture, enhancing food security, and consolidating the UAE’s position as a global center for agricultural innovation and disseminating specialized knowledge.
She explained that these recommendations represent a practical roadmap for the next stage, and reflect the award’s keenness to continue its pioneering role in serving the palm and date sector, by supporting scientific research, encouraging innovation, and strengthening international partnerships.
She stressed that the United Arab Emirates, thanks to the support of its wise leadership, continues to consolidate its position as a global model in transforming agricultural challenges into sustainable development opportunities, in fulfillment of the legacy of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, may God rest his soul, who made agriculture a cultural message and a national responsibility.
