Under the directives of the Ruler of Sharjah…the opening of the Arabic Language Hall at the Spanish University of Salamanca

Salamanca (Spain), 3 May / WAM / Yesterday, the Sharjah Arabic Language Academy opened the “Sharjah Arabic Language Hall” at the Spanish University of Salamanca, under the directives of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council, Ruler of Sharjah, Supreme President of the Academy, in a step that reflects His Highness’s vision of enhancing the presence of the Arabic language globally and consolidating its position in international academic institutions.

This came following a memorandum of understanding signed by the Arabic Language Academy in Sharjah with the University of Salamanca, which aims to support teaching the Arabic language to non-native speakers and provide an integrated educational environment that includes books and modern publications, in addition to organizing specialized training courses and workshops for students and teachers.

An official ceremony was held at the university’s headquarters in the Spanish city of Salamanca on this occasion, in the presence of a number of academics and officials, during which the participants stressed the importance of this project in enhancing cultural and knowledge exchange between the Arab world and Europe and opening new horizons for students to study the Arabic language and literature.

Dr. Muhammad Hassan Khalaf, Director General of the Sharjah Radio and Television Authority and member of the Board of Trustees of the Arabic Language Academy in Sharjah, said that the opening of the Arabic Language Hall at the University of Salamanca is a strategic step that reflects the vision of the Emirate of Sharjah to spread the Arabic language and enhance its global presence, and embodies the interest of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah in the Arabic language and his keenness to support it in the most prestigious academic institutions, which contributes to building bridges of cultural communication between peoples.

For his part, Dr. Ahmed Safi Al Mosteghanemi, Secretary General of the Arabic Language Academy in Sharjah, said that this initiative comes within a series of specific projects led by the Academy to spread the Arabic language and teach it to non-native speakers. The hall represents a scientific and cultural center that serves students and researchers and enhances the status of the Arabic language as a language of science, culture and civilization at the global level.

Dr. Juan Manuel Corchado, Director of the University of Salamanca, expressed his thanks and appreciation to His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah for his support for this project, stressing that this initiative reflects a real commitment to enhancing cultural and knowledge dialogue between civilizations, developing Arabic language teaching programs at the university, and opening new horizons for academic cooperation.

This step comes as a result of institutional cooperation supervised by the administration of the Arabic Language Academy in Sharjah, in coordination with the Department of Arabic Language and Oriental Studies at the University of Salamanca, and with direct follow-up by the Arabist Dr. Laura Qaqo.

The project to establish the hall was implemented, furnishing it and equipping it with all electronic supplies, books and basic publications to provide an integrated educational environment that supports teaching the Arabic language to non-native speakers and contributes to enabling them to acquire it properly and master the skills of speaking and writing in it.

The University of Salamanca is considered one of the oldest European universities, as its founding dates back to the year 1215 AD. It has a long history in teaching the Arabic language and has contributed over centuries to consolidating its presence in Europe, which makes the opening of the hall a qualitative addition that enhances this extended academic path.

This project embodies an extension of the efforts of the Emirate of Sharjah to support the Arabic language globally and reflects its pioneering role in enhancing its presence in educational institutions and consolidating its position as a bridge for cultural and knowledge communication between peoples.
