"Dubai roads" Launching awareness campaigns for pedestrians during Gulf Traffic Week 2026

On the occasion of Gulf Traffic Week 2026, Dubai Roads organizes extensive activities to enhance pedestrian safety
DUBAI, 4th May / WAM / On the occasion of “Gulf Traffic Week 2026”, the Roads and Transport Authority in Dubai organized a group of various activities to raise awareness of traffic safety guidelines while crossing the road, in coordination with its partners, targeting drivers, pedestrians and users of flexible transportation in the Emirate of Dubai, and with the participation of specialized authorities from various emirates of the country.
The week runs from May 3 to May 8, 2026 under the slogan “Cross Safely.”
The Authority’s annual participation in the events and activities of Gulf Traffic Week comes at the heart of its awareness work towards road users, in line with the Authority’s values and mission towards individuals and society, especially in the field of pedestrian safety.
Ahmed Al-Khuzaimi, Director of the Traffic Department at the Traffic and Roads Agency, confirmed that the Authority is continuing its integrated efforts to enhance pedestrian safety in Dubai within an advanced traffic system that has made the emirate among the safest cities in the world, as the traffic fatality rate declined from 21.7 deaths per 100,000 population in 2007 to 1.4 in 2025, which is an indication of the success of the plans and procedures implemented by the Authority within the traffic safety strategy in cooperation with strategic partners and the private sector, such as the Emirates Institute. He pointed out that the authority relies on an integrated system that includes the establishment and development of a network of bridges, tunnels and pedestrian crossings, as the number of pedestrian bridges at the end of 2025 reached about 177 bridges, including metro station bridges, and the number of speed-slowing means on the streets of Dubai exceeded 2,000 means, in addition to signs, traffic signs, and ongoing awareness events throughout the year directed at various societal groups.
During the past year, the Authority targeted more than 30,000 workers within the “Pedestrian Safety” program, in addition to about 47,000 students who benefited from awareness lectures focusing on pedestrian safety and safe crossing of the road.
He explained that the authority prepared for Gulf Traffic Week with a number of activities that serve this year’s slogan, including placing awareness advertisements on advertising screens, displaying the week’s slogan on electronic screens on the emirate’s roads, in addition to awareness-raising activities for more than 1,000 workers about pedestrian safety, and distributing reflective hats to users of the metro and public buses accompanied by an instruction booklet on safe crossing of the road, which contains an electronic symbol for an awareness film explaining the dangers of crossing from other than designated places, and includes a reference to The fine for this violation is 400 dirhams.
The activities include field activities to raise awareness of the necessity of getting off a bicycle or scooter when crossing the street through pedestrian crossings. Some individual transportation users who adhere to traffic safety rules will also be honored.
The activities also include an initiative to visit those injured in pedestrian accidents at Rashid Hospital, with the participation of vehicle drivers and delivery bike drivers, in addition to school activities within the “Golden Rules for Generational Safety” program implemented by the Authority in cooperation with strategic partners.
Al-Khuzaimi called on all members of the public to adhere to the rules of safe crossing, use designated crossings, and pay full attention while walking, especially when approaching intersections and pedestrian crossings, stressing that the safety of pedestrians and users of flexible transportation in Dubai is a societal responsibility that requires everyone’s cooperation.
