Barcelona is competing with Bayern to sign the Newcastle star

Spanish Barcelona is competing with German Bayern Munich to include Anthony Gordon, the English Newcastle United player, during the upcoming summer transfer period, according to a press report, today, Tuesday.

The English winger is considered a strong candidate to leave Newcastle, with a number of elite clubs interested in obtaining his services this summer.

RAK1 radio station reported that Gordon (25 years old) caught the attention of Barcelona officials this season with his distinguished performance, especially in the Champions League.

The report added that Portuguese Deco, Barcelona’s sporting director, is currently giving priority to including Gordon, who is good at playing in more than one position this summer, in order to give Brazilian Rafinha, the Catalan team’s player, a chance to breathe.

Rafinha is currently considered the only option available in the left wing position for Barcelona coach Hansi Flick, but the player suffered two thigh injuries that reduced his participation with the team to only 31 matches in all competitions this season.

The main obstacle facing Barcelona in its attempt to include Gordon is its high price, as reports indicated that Newcastle is asking for 85 million euros in exchange for releasing the player, and it also asked Bayern, which is also monitoring the player, the same amount.

The historic champion of the German League is also seeking to include a winger capable of providing a real alternative to Colombian Luis Diaz on the left front.

Newcastle may be forced to sell one of its prominent stars this summer due to Financial Fair Play regulations, after the huge investments that have been pumped in recent years.

Newcastle is likely to get the highest possible price for Gordon, but there is also speculation about the quick departure of German Nick Wohltmeade, who is no longer the first choice for Eddie Howe, the team’s coach.

Newcastle is currently in thirteenth place in the English Premier League, as it will miss participating in the European championships next season, which will negatively affect its financial resources.
