The UAE and Syria are discussing unifying efforts to issue fatwas that keep pace with the times and enhance community cohesion

Damascus, May 12 / WAM / His Excellency Dr. Omar Habtoor Al-Dari, Chairman of the General Authority for Islamic Affairs, Endowments and Zakat, met with His Eminence Sheikh Osama Abdul Karim Al-Rifai, Chairman of the Supreme Fatwa Council, Mufti of the Syrian Arab Republic, on the sidelines of the activities of the Syrian-Emirati Investment Forum held in Damascus, in the presence of a number of officials from both sides.

During the meeting, a number of topics were discussed related to presenting moderate fatwas that meet people’s needs and various issues in a spirit of wisdom, moderation and facilitation, help build a cohesive society based on mutual respect and cooperation among its members, and confront extremist ideas that lead to division and hatred.

The two sides stressed that cooperation between religious institutions and scholars contributes to unifying efforts and exchanging experiences, and helps to issue solid fatwas that reflect the civilization of the Islamic religion and its understanding of all the changes of the era while preserving religious constants and values.
