Despite his international retirement… discussions in Germany to include Neuer in the national team

Kicker magazine confirmed that there are discussions in the internal circles of the German national team regarding the return of veteran goalkeeper Manuel Neuer to participate with the national team in the World Cup, going far beyond the statements of coach Julian Nagelsmann.
The German magazine’s report indicated that Bayern Munich is aware of these discussions.
Nagelsmann and Neuer, who won the 2014 World Cup, ruled out the idea of the veteran goalkeeper participating in the World Cup, which will be held during June and July in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
Neuer said on a television program: “I will not participate in the World Cup, and I will not be part of the team. Rather, I am quietly following all the events from the outside.”
Neuer retired from international football after participating with the German national team in UEFA Euro 2024, but his brilliance this season raised questions again about his participation in a new tournament with his country’s national team.
Kicker reported that Nagelsmann will send the preliminary list of the German national team, which includes 55 players, to FIFA next Monday. This list has not yet been announced, knowing that it will be reduced on May 21.
Neuer’s return will represent a major blow to Hoffenheim’s goalkeeper, Oliver Baumann.
Marc-Andre ter Stegen, Girona’s goalkeeper, was expected to succeed Neuer after the 2024 European Championship, but a large number of injuries deprived Ter Stegen of that.
Therefore, Nagelsmann was forced to rely on Baumann, who hopes to be the main goalkeeper for the German national team, which will begin its World Cup campaign in Group Five, which includes Curaçao, Côte d’Ivoire, and Ecuador.
