Abu Dhabi Fund for Development / Development projects that contribute to improving the lives of more than 1.3 million families around the world
ABU DHABI, 14th May / WAM / The Abu Dhabi Fund for Development reviewed a number of its development projects and their contribution to improving the lives of more than 1.3 million families in various developing countries around the world as part of its ongoing commitment to supporting sustainable social and economic development and strengthening societies through strategic investments with a tangible impact.
The Fund’s development activity extends to various continents, including Asia and Africa, where it achieves a wide-ranging impact through investments that strengthen infrastructure, expand access to basic services, and provide long-term economic opportunities for communities.
This coincides with the International Day of Families and the Year of the Family 2026 in the UAE, which focuses on enhancing family cohesion and establishing inclusive and resilient societies as a basis for sustainable development, reflecting the vision of the wise leadership for the role of the family as the basic pillar of stable and prosperous societies.
The Fund stressed that sustainable development is essentially measured by its ability to improve the lives of individuals and achieve long-term social and economic value for families and communities. Its funding areas include vital sectors such as infrastructure, renewable energy, water, health care, agriculture, advanced technologies, housing, and community development, which contribute to expanding opportunities, enhancing resilience, and improving the quality of life in developing countries.
His Excellency Mohammed Saif Al Suwaidi, Director General of the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development, said: “On International Families Day, we remember the pivotal role that the family plays as the cornerstone of building stable, prosperous and resilient societies. We at the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development view financing sustainable development as an investment in people, as every project we support ultimately aims to improve the quality of life and enable communities to flourish.”
He added: “Our commitment is not limited to developing infrastructure or providing financing, but rather extends to enabling opportunities, enhancing resilience, and ensuring the achievement of development results that are directly reflected at the family level, which remains the cornerstone of every society. When families have access to energy, health care, education, transportation, and economic opportunities, societies become more able to face challenges, and countries become more prosperous.”
In addition to supporting economic growth, the Fund’s projects continue to achieve tangible humanitarian impact by empowering women, supporting children’s access to education and basic services, and helping families build more stable and sustainable livelihoods. By improving health care services, providing clean energy and water, enhancing connectivity, and expanding economic opportunities, the Fund’s initiatives contribute to building more inclusive and resilient societies for current and future generations.
The results are evident across the Fund’s global projects. In Laos, the Southern National Road No. 13 development project contributes to strengthening logistical connectivity, expanding access to markets and basic services, and supporting agricultural production and trade flows. The project is expected to benefit more than 48,000 families annually, which will have a positive impact on more than 255,000 people and support economic development opportunities on a broader scale.
In Togo, the expansion of the Mohammed bin Zayed Solar Park contributed to supporting access to clean and reliable energy for about 158,000 families, enhancing energy security and supporting sustainable growth. The renewable energy projects supported by the Fund in Liberia, Niger and Togo have also contributed to improving access to electricity for about 750,000 families, which enhances resilience and improves the quality of life, while the projects being implemented in the United Comoros within the framework of a series of development initiatives bearing the name “Mother of the Emirates” continue to reach more than 360,000 beneficiaries with their focus on agriculture, food security and community empowerment.
As global development priorities continue to evolve, the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development continues its commitment to financing projects that place people, families, and the resilience of communities at the heart of sustainable social and economic development.
