From Kuwait to Abu Dhabi by car… Love for the Emirates leads a Gulf family to the international jiu-jitsu platform

Abu Dhabi, May 16 / WAM / The trip from Kuwait to Abu Dhabi was not just a transfer to participate in a sports tournament, but rather it was a Gulf story of passion entitled love and loyalty to the Emirates, and a message of appreciation for its pioneering role in creating the future of jiu-jitsu in the world.
In a scene that embodies the depth of the fraternal ties between the Emirates and Kuwait, Kuwaiti Mahmoud Al-Ajmi, accompanied by his children and friends, traveled a distance of approximately 1,200 kilometers by car, which took about 12 hours, in order to participate in the “Abu Dhabi Grand Slam Jiu-Jitsu” Championship, out of his belief that Abu Dhabi is the first global capital of this sport, and the destination that creates champions and gives talent the path to glory.
Al-Ajmi, the father of two children participating in the tournament, said that what the UAE offers to the sport of jiu-jitsu has become a source of pride for all the people of the Gulf and the Arab world, praising the great support that the game enjoys from the wise leadership in the Emirates, and the continuous efforts of the Emirates Jiu-Jitsu Federation and the Abu Dhabi Jiu-Jitsu Association in spreading and developing the game and raising it to the highest international levels.
He added that his sons began their journey with foreign tournaments through the Abu Dhabi Association of Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship (Middle East) in Qatar, then participated in the Abu Dhabi World Championship for Professional Jiu-Jitsu last November, and achieved outstanding results, stressing that participating in the UAE Championships represents a dream for every player looking for development and achieving achievements.
He explained that his 10-year-old son, “Obaid Mahmoud Al-Ajmi,” succeeded in just six months in winning 7 gold medals, including the world gold in Abu Dhabi during his first participation in 2025, while his second son, “Abdullah Hamoud Al-Ajmi,” achieved several golds, in addition to the silver in the World Championship in November 2025, expressing his hope that his children will continue their journey towards an honorable sporting future that serves their countries.
He stressed that Abu Dhabi has become the largest supporter and developer of the sport of jiu-jitsu in the world, thanks to its organization of the largest tournaments, the provision of the highest awards, and its keenness to discover talent and create new generations of champions, pointing out that this sport is not limited to competition only, but rather instills in children great values such as discipline, patience, endurance, focus, and courage.
He said that the new generations are in dire need of these values, and that the Emirati investment in sports and people has become an inspiring model to be emulated globally, adding: “Every achievement that the Emirates achieves in jiu-jitsu is considered an achievement for us as Gulf Arabs and Arabs, because the Emirates is an added value to the entire region.”
He concluded his speech by emphasizing that the UAE championships no longer create only local champions, but rather create champions in various Gulf countries and the world, expressing his pride in the inspiring sports and development opportunities that the UAE provides to the people of the region and the world, embodying its humanitarian and civilizational vision of building people and creating the future.
