The University of Sharjah hosts a Model United Nations conference to promote youth diplomacy


Sharjah, 18 May / WAM / The University of Sharjah hosted the activities of the fifth edition of the United Nations Conference (UOSMUN), which was organized by the College of Public Policy in cooperation with the United Nations Assembly of the Department of International Relations, with wide participation of university students and young people interested in international issues and diplomacy, within the framework of supporting youth diplomacy and promoting global dialogue.
The conference was launched in the presence of Dr. Essam El-Din Ajami, Director of the University of Sharjah, and Dr. Shimal Kataria, Dean of the College of Public Policy, along with an elite group of academics, experts and specialists in international relations and humanitarian work, in addition to a delegation from the International Committee of the Red Cross in the UAE, headed by Valentina Bernasconi.
The conference was held this year under the slogan “Bridging the Gaps and Building the Future: Collective Diplomacy for Global Resilience,” and focused on consolidating the concepts of collective diplomacy, building bridges of dialogue between cultures, and empowering young people to contribute effectively to addressing contemporary international issues.
The conference included nine specialized committees that discussed a number of global issues through interactive simulation sessions that simulate the work mechanisms of international organizations, allowing participants to gain practical experiences in the fields of negotiation and diplomatic decision-making, in addition to developing leadership, critical thinking, and teamwork skills.
The program included training workshops and dialogue sessions with the participation of international speakers and specialists in the diplomatic and humanitarian fields, in addition to social and cultural activities aimed at enhancing cultural exchange and building relationships between participants.
The university stressed that the conference aims to prepare a generation of young people who are aware of international issues and capable of contributing to formulating innovative solutions to global challenges, by providing an interactive academic platform that supports communication and leadership skills and building international relations, as part of the university’s ongoing efforts to empower youth and support qualitative student initiatives.
