China issues a red flood alert for Anhui and Hubei provinces

Yesterday, the Ministry of Water Resources and the National Meteorological Administration of China issued a red alert, the highest alert level, to confront Sudden floods amid heavy rains in the central and eastern regions of China.

The Chinese authorities have warned – according to the New China News Agency (Xinhua) – that parts of western Anhui Province and eastern Hubei Province are facing a risk of Sudden mountain floods, from eight o’clock on Sunday evening until eight o’clock on Monday evening.

An orange warning, which is the second highest level of warning, was also issued for parts of Zhejiang, Anhui, Jiangxi, and Hubei provinces.

Heavy to very heavy rain is expected in southern Henan, western and southern Anhui, northwestern Hunan, northeastern Jiangxi and northeastern Chongqing, until this evening, while some areas in southwestern Anhui and eastern Hubei are preparing for severe rainstorms that may reach record levels.

The Ministry of Natural Resources and the National Meteorological Service also jointly issued a yellow alert to confront geological disasters on the tenth of October. Provinces, including Shanxi, Anhui and Hubei.

The landslide danger level was raised to orange alert in southern Anhui and eastern Hubei, indicating a high probability of mudslides and landslides.
