A Saudi symposium discusses the challenges of translating Islamic content in "Kuala Lumpur book"
Open Saudi Arabia Pavilion Guest of Honor Kuala Lumpur International Book Fair 2026, its first cultural symposium entitled "Translating Islamic content: conveying the meaning and faithfulness of the message"on the stage of the international book fairs at the exhibition.
The symposium was moderated by journalist Ahmed Al-Alkami, and hosted Professor Dr. Walid Al-Omari, a specialist in translation, who emphasized the importance of accurate translation of Islamic content in conveying the correct image of Islam, and that translating Islamic concepts requires a deep understanding of the cultural contexts and legal connotations, in order to preserve the authenticity of the meaning and the accuracy of the message.

Al-Omari addressed the most prominent challenges associated with translating Islamic terms, warning of Using concepts that may transfer the term to different cultural references that affect its true understanding by the recipient.
He explained that artificial intelligence techniques are a supportive tool for developing and accelerating translation work, but they do not replace specialized human review, stressing visual and editorial review to ensure the integrity of the translation and the fidelity of conveying the message.
Qualifying specialized competencies
At the conclusion of his participation, the symposium guest touched on the role of qualifying specialized competencies in translating Islamic content, and promoting initiatives that It is concerned with translating Islamic knowledge and sciences into various languages.
The symposium comes within a series of cultural and knowledge events hosted by the Kingdom’s pavilion at the Kuala Lumpur International Book Fair, with the aim of highlighting the Saudi cultural movement, enhancing intellectual exchange with various cultures, and enriching the dialogue on issues of publishing and translation, within the framework of the cultural program organized by Literature, Publishing and Translation Authorityduring the exhibition days extending from May 29 to June 7, 2026 AD at the exhibition headquarters in the World Trade Center in the Malaysian capital.
