Sharjah Antiquities Authority displays its treasures at the Warsaw Book Fair

Warsaw, 30 May / WAM / The Sharjah Archeology Authority is participating in the activities of the Warsaw International Book Fair 2026, which continues until tomorrow at the National Stadium in the Polish capital, Warsaw, within the pavilion of the Emirate of Sharjah, which is the guest of honor of the exhibition in a prominent international cultural station that reflects the growing position of the emirate on the map of global culture, especially with its selection as the first Arab guest of honor in the history of the exhibition.
As part of the participation of the Emirate of Sharjah as a guest of honor in the exhibition, headed by Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, Chairwoman of the Board of Directors of the Sharjah Book Authority, the emirate showcased to the exhibition audience part of its cultural and civilizational achievements that have established its position as a global center for knowledge and culture. During her visit to the Sharjah Archeology Authority’s pavilion, Sheikha Bodour Al Qasimi was briefed on a selection of artifacts and specialized scientific publications that document Sharjah’s cultural journey through the ages and reflect its pioneering contributions to enriching knowledge. Humanity through archaeological discoveries and scientific research that contributed to rereading the history of the region and highlighting its historical role within networks of cultural exchange and human communication over the centuries.
During its participation, the authority highlighted the cultural heritage of the Emirate of Sharjah by displaying a group of artifacts that represent material evidence of the succession of civilizations and human settlement in the emirate over thousands of years.
It highlighted the historical role that Sharjah played as a link between global trade and cultural communication networks, as its ports and ancient civilizational centers were linked to trade routes extending through the land and sea Silk Road, which linked the civilizations of East Asia to the southern Arabian Peninsula and the Mediterranean Sea.
The Warsaw International Book Fair represents a symbolic opportunity to highlight the cultural intersections with the historic Amber Road that linked the Baltic Sea region to Europe and the ancient world.
Archaeological discoveries in sites such as Mleiha, Dibba Al Hisn and others reveal the existence of vast networks of commercial and cultural exchange that extended from India, Mesopotamia and the eastern Mediterranean to the Hellenistic and Roman world, which confirms Sharjah’s historical status as a bridge of communication between civilizations and an active center in the movement of human exchange throughout the ages.
Dr. Saeed Abdullah bin Yaroof Al Naqbi, Director of the Sharjah Antiquities Authority, confirmed that the Authority’s participation in the Warsaw International Book Fair represents an important opportunity to introduce the civilizational and cultural wealth of the Emirate of Sharjah and highlight the scientific and research achievements achieved by the Authority in the field of antiquities at the regional and international levels.
He said that this participation is an extension of the Sharjah Antiquities Authority’s mission to enhance awareness of the importance of cultural and human heritage and highlight the cultural role of the Emirate of Sharjah as a pioneering knowledge and cultural center. This international platform gives us the opportunity to communicate with a new audience of researchers, interested people and culture makers and review the qualitative achievements Sharjah has achieved in the field of archaeological research, protecting heritage sites and documenting human history.
He added that hosting this event in Poland, whose history is linked to the Amber Road, gives our participation an additional cultural dimension, as it highlights the similarities between the ancient cultural exchange networks that linked Europe with Asia and the role that Sharjah has played throughout history in linking societies and civilizations along global trade routes. The antiquities not only document the past, but also reveal a long history of human communication and dialogue between cultures.
The Authority reviewed a wide range of its specialized scientific and academic publications that document the results of excavations and archaeological studies in the Emirate of Sharjah, most notably the “Sharjah Antiquities Yearbook” series, in its parts from the first issue to the twenty-third issue, in addition to a number of specialized reference books that deal with the topics of antiquities, Islamic architecture, coins, the natural environment, and cultural studies.
