Emirates boats win the speed race…and"Victory" Pole pole in "Sardinian Prize"
Cagliari, May 30 / WAM / The Victory team continued its brilliance at the opening of the Sardinian Grand Prix, the first round of the 2026 Formula 1 World Powerboat Championship, after its driver Sean Torrente topped the official qualifying rounds that were held this evening in the Italian city of Cagliari, starting from first place in the main race scheduled for tomorrow.
Torrente, aboard the “Victory 1” boat, recorded the best time in the qualifications, amounting to 42.533 seconds, confirming his readiness to compete for the title of the opening round, while his colleague Alec Wikstrom, captain of the “Victory 3” boat, came in ninth place with a time of 44.191 seconds.
The qualifiers witnessed a strong presence of Emirati teams, as Rusty White from the Sharjah team came in second place with a time of 42.727 seconds, followed by his teammate Stefan Arand in third place with a time of 42.807 seconds, while Grant Trask from the Sharjah team took sixth place with a time of 43.297 seconds.
From the Abu Dhabi team, Jonas Anderson came in tenth place with a time of 44.257 seconds, while Eric Stark came in fourteenth place with a time of 46.645 seconds, and Rashid Al Qamzi in fifteenth place with a time of 46.980 seconds.
In terms of sprint races, Torrente completed the double after winning the first race, earning his first 10 points during the new season.
Torrente succeeded in finishing the 17-lap race in first place, ahead of Peter Morin, driver of the Chinese team, who came in second, while Poland’s Bartek Marczlik, driver of the Stromoy Racing team, came in third place.
Mohammed Hareb, Executive Director of the Dubai International Marine Sports Club and head of the Victory Mission, praised the outstanding performance presented by Sean Torrente at the opening of the season, stressing that topping the official qualifiers and winning the speed race reflect the extent of the preparations and technical readiness with which the team entered the championship competitions.
