Sharjah Art Foundation opens applications for the eighth edition of "Corniche"
Sharjah, June 3 / WAM / The Sharjah Arts Foundation announced the opening of applications for participation in the eighth edition of the comic book “Cornish”, which provides a platform for comic artists and illustrators residing in the Gulf Cooperation Council countries to display their work and explore various forms of visual narrative and artistic experimentation.
The Foundation invited illustrators and comic artists aged 18 years and above to submit proposals for six-page comic stories, with a group of works being selected to be published in the new edition. The selected artists will also participate in a three-day forum in Sharjah to exchange ideas and develop their projects before submitting them in their final form.
Corniche provides an open space for experimentation and exploration, and receives works on a variety of topics, including personal experiences, science fiction, fantasy, mythology, and art history, reflecting the diversity of the creative scene in the region.
The Foundation explained that the proposals must include an illustrated story of exactly six pages, with the possibility of using Arabic or English, or presenting the work without dialogue, while it is left to the artist to choose the appropriate medium, whether traditional, digital, or multimedia.
The “Corniche” project dates back to 2019, when it was launched as a workshop specializing in comic making, before it developed into a collective publishing project aiming to support visual narrative practices and comic arts in the region.
The Foundation indicated that the artists retain full printing and publishing rights for their works, while granting it the initial publishing rights within the book, noting that the eighth edition will be launched during “Meeting Point 2026,” the annual art book exhibition organized by the Foundation.
Applications will continue to be received through the Sharjah Art Foundation’s website until June 30th.
