Revealed data issued by The Saudi Commission for Health Specialties that the total number of health practitioners registered in the field of human medicine and surgery in the Kingdom reached 154,832 practitioners, in an indicator that reflects the rapid growth witnessed by The health sector, and the expansion of medical and specialized services in line with the objectives of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 aimed at raising the quality of health care and enhancing the efficiency of national cadres.
The statistics showed that the category of general doctors came in first place in terms of number, with a total of 45,248 practitioners, representing about 29 percent of the total practitioners in this field, and the category of consultants came in second place, with a total of 41,533 consultants. and consulting, a number that reflects the expansion of the base of advanced medical expertise and the growing reliance on highly qualified competencies in hospitals and specialized centers, while the number of doctors in the deputy rank reached about 31,899 doctors, followed by the first deputy rank with a total of 22,840 practitioners.
In the training stages, the data showed that there were 8,443 trained residents, in addition to 4,827 resident doctors, while the number of doctors classified as “fellowship” degree was 42 practitioners, and in terms of distribution by nationality, statistics showed that the number of Saudi practitioners reached 61,675 practitioners, equivalent to 40% of the total practitioners, compared to 93,157 non-Saudi practitioners.
Growing presence of women
As for gender distribution, the data recorded the presence of 91,458 male practitioners, compared to 63,374 female practitioners, which indicates a growing presence Women in various medical specialties, especially in recent years that have witnessed an expansion in opportunities for medical education and specialized training.
The category of general doctors and consultants stands out as the backbone of the medical system, as the two categories together account for more than 86 thousand health practitioners, i.e. more than half of the total practitioners in the field of human medicine and surgery, which reflects the balance between primary care services and advanced specialized services that the Kingdom is working to strengthen within its strategic plans to develop the health sector.
