A memorandum of understanding between the Basketball Association and the American University to develop national competencies

Dubai, June 9, 2017 – The UAE Basketball Federation and the American University in the Emirates signed a memorandum of understanding, which includes cooperation in exchanging experiences and knowledge, organizing conferences, seminars and workshops, conducting joint scientific studies and research, in addition to providing practical training opportunities for university students, and working to develop specialized academic programs that serve the strategic goals of both parties.

The memorandum also includes providing educational benefits to the Federation’s employees, including discounts on bachelor’s and master’s programs, in addition to specialized programs in sports law and sports management, in support of the professional and academic development of employees and members of the Federation.

Salem Al Mutawa, Secretary General of the UAE Basketball Federation, said that the memorandum comes within the framework of the Federation’s keenness to build strategic partnerships with the leading academic institutions in the country, which contributes to the development of national cadres working in the sports sector and supports the process of institutional excellence.

He added that the specialized academic programs included in the memorandum, especially in the fields of sports law and sports management, will contribute to preparing qualified cadres capable of keeping pace with the rapid developments in sports work, indicating the Federation’s aspiration to launch joint initiatives that achieve the goals of both parties and serve Emirati sports.

Dr. Muthanna Ghani Abdel Razek, President of the University, stressed that the memorandum embodies the commitment of the American University in the Emirates to strengthen its societal role and support the sports sector through education, scientific research, and strategic partnerships.

He said that cooperation with the Emirates Basketball Association represents an important opportunity to strengthen the link between the academic aspect and practical application, allowing students to benefit from field experiences and contributing to the preparation of qualified national cadres capable of leading the future of the sports sector.
