Under the directives of the President of the State, the UAE provides support to enhance efforts to contain the outbreak of the Ebola virus in Africa
Abu Dhabi, June 12 / WAM / Under the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the State, may God protect him, the UAE, through the Emirates International Aid Agency, has provided support to strengthen the efforts of the World Health Organization to contain the outbreak of the Ebola virus on the continent of Africa.
In this context, His Excellency Sheikh Shakhbut bin Nahyan Al Nahyan, Minister of State, affirmed the UAE’s commitment to urgently respond to various crises and disasters, based on its humanitarian mission and its global responsibility to combat diseases and epidemics that threaten people wherever they are, in coordination with governments, international organizations and relevant regional institutions.
His Excellency also stressed that the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the State, “may God protect him,” embody the vision of a leadership that places human dignity and the protection of life as a basis in the field of humanitarian work for the UAE.
His Excellency pointed out that the UAE’s support for efforts to contain the outbreak of the Ebola virus comes as an extension of this vision, and an embodiment of an approach based on strengthening humanitarian and medical work through concrete and effective steps that support affected communities and enhance their ability to confront health crises.
His Excellency said: Reports and statements issued by the World Health Organization have shown the danger of the active spread of the cross-border Bundibugyo strain of the Ebola virus, which requires doubling international efforts to prevent its spread among different age groups on the African continent, stressing that the UAE is working in partnership with various governments and international organizations to support these efforts.
His Excellency also indicated that the UAE continues to provide its support and health assistance to affected communities by providing medical support, providing approved vaccines and necessary medicines, and working with competent international organizations and local authorities concerned with providing the best possible health care in specialized treatment centers.
