"Dubai Humanitarian" A strategic partnership is concluded to enhance negotiation and diplomacy skills in the humanitarian sector globally

DUBAI, June 19, 2017 (WAM) – Dubai Humanitarian Center signed a strategic agreement with the Center for Competence in Humanitarian Negotiation, based in Geneva, with the aim of enhancing leadership, negotiation and diplomacy capabilities in the humanitarian sector globally.

The signing ceremony took place prior to holding a specialized course for senior leaders at the Dubai Humanitarian Knowledge and Development Center entitled “Leading Humanitarian Negotiation and Diplomacy Operations,” in cooperation with the Anwar Gargash Diplomatic Academy.

Under this partnership, the two parties are jointly designing and implementing high-impact training programmes, workshops and simulations with the aim of providing humanitarian workers, decision makers and emerging leaders with practical skills in negotiation and leadership and enhancing cooperation between humanitarian organisations, governments and academic institutions.

Giuseppe Saba, Executive Director and Member of the Board of Directors of Dubai Humanitarian Affairs, said: “Our presence here today constitutes a strong message that diplomacy remains an essential pillar of humanitarian work. In light of an increasingly complex humanitarian landscape, where nearly half of global humanitarian aid is directed to conflict-affected environments, reaching those affected remains one of the greatest challenges we face.”

Saba added that two years ago we began a dialogue about the vital role of humanitarian negotiation and diplomacy, and the signing of this agreement and the launch of the specialized course today is an extension of that process. He expressed his gratitude to the Center for Competence in Humanitarian Negotiation and the Anwar Gargash Diplomatic Academy for making this initiative possible and for their contribution in transforming specialized expertise into applicable practical knowledge.

He said: “Dubai Humanitarian and its Knowledge and Development Center are honored to host this program in the United Arab Emirates, and by moving forward with our global safety network initiatives, we reaffirm that Dubai Humanitarian is not just a logistics center, but rather a global platform for learning, cooperation and excellence committed to connecting partners, supporting humanitarian work and raising its standards worldwide.”

For his part, Rehan Zahid, Deputy Director of the Center for Competence in Humanitarian Negotiation, expressed his pleasure at formalizing the partnership with Dubai Humanitarian and launching it through a specialized course for senior humanitarian leaders organized in cooperation with the Anwar Gargash Diplomatic Academy. In every crisis there are people waiting for help and reaching them requires not only delivering relief but also engaging in dialogue and diplomacy to ensure and maintain access to affected communities.

He expressed his thanks to Dubai Humanitarian Society for hosting this event in the UAE, appreciated its pioneering role as a global platform for learning and cooperation, and expressed his aspiration to develop this partnership during the next stage.
