المملكة: “Sweet in season.” A campaign to market seasonal fruits and raise self-sufficiency rates

The initiative aims to raise financial returns for farmers coinciding with seasons of abundant agricultural production, and these moves are based on a rising growth in economic indicators for the agricultural sector, as the volume of annual production exceeded the barrier of 16 million tons.

This expansion contributed to raising the sector’s share in the gross domestic product to exceed 124 billion riyals.

Crop consumption National

The Ministry’s official spokesman, Saleh bin Dakhil, explained that the awareness path of the campaign aims to introduce the relative advantages of the highest producing regions.

He pointed out that the focus is on motivating society to consume national crops in a way that supports local producers.

Bin Dakhil confirmed the success of the operational strategies in achieving advanced self-sufficiency rates for a number of strategic crops to support the food security system.

He indicated that the list included dates, Figs, watermelon, mango, and citrus fruits, in addition to various types of vegetables.

The official spokesman pointed out that these moves come as a continuation of the efforts aimed at achieving the goals of Saudi Vision 2030 in securing supply chains.

He concluded that consumer confidence in the local product is the primary driver for developing its quality and competing with foreign imports.
