UAE judo wins gold in Ulaanbaatar tournament "Grand slam"
Ulaanbaatar, June 21 / WAM / Eliza Letev, a player of our national judo team and ranked first in the under-78 kg category, won the gold medal in the Ulaanbaatar “Grand Slam” tournament, at the conclusion of the competitions today in the Mongolian capital, Ulaanbaatar.
Letiev achieved outstanding results in the under-78 kg competition, starting in the preliminary round, by defeating Austrian champion Elena Deng, Colombian Olaya Brenda, and German Elena Boehm in the semi-finals, then she continued her brilliance in the final by defeating Frenchwoman Audrey Chiumio.
On the other hand, the player, Dhafar Kosov, showed strong performances in the under-100 kg competition before withdrawing against his Russian counterpart, Idar Pivov, in the match to determine third and fourth places, due to injury. During the preliminary round competitions, he was able to defeat the Croatian Komertysh Zalatko, the Mongolian Khidr Cholon, and then the Japanese Masacha, to win the bronze medal in fourth place.
His Excellency Mohammed bin Thaloub Al-Darai, President of the Judo Federation, praised the results achieved by our national team in the tournament, noting its positive impact on its journey to obtain more qualifying points for the 2028 Olympic Games.
He announced the continuation of preparations for our national team, which is at the top of the Arab classification, in preparation for its participation in the “Grand Prix” tournament hosted by the Chinese Federation in the city of Qingdao, during the period from 26 to 28 June of this year, with a list consisting of 11 male and female players, with new ambitions to reach the best results in the tournament.
