North America wins the UAE Community Basketball Championship

DUBAI, June 23 / WAM / The “Emirates Community Basketball Championship”, organized by the Emirates Committee for Nurturing Sports Talents and Supporting National Sports under the auspices of the Ministry of Sports, in cooperation with the Dubai Sports Council, the Emirates Basketball Federation and the “Champs” Sports Club, concluded with the North American team being crowned champions of the tournament after defeating the Senegal team in the final match.

The closing day was attended by His Excellency Dr. Ahmed Belhoul Al Falasi, Minister of Sports, along with a number of sports leaders and representatives of partner agencies, amid a large public presence and a festive atmosphere that reflected the cultural diversity that characterizes the UAE.

12 teams from communities residing in the country participated in the tournament, which lasted more than a month, including the UAE, Egypt, Philippines, Syria, Lebanon, Palestine, Turkey, Spain, Senegal, China, Uzbekistan and North America.

His Excellency Sheikh Suhail bin Butti Al Maktoum, Assistant Undersecretary for the Sports Development and Competitiveness Sector at the Ministry of Sports, Chairman of the Emirates Committee for Nurturing Sports Talents and Supporting National Sports, confirmed that the final outcome of the tournament reflects the success of efforts aimed at providing an attractive and incubating sports platform for talents from various communities, and an interactive environment that brought together families and youth, noting that cooperation with partners contributed to organizing a distinguished event that strengthened community sports and supported national sports.

His Excellency Saeed Hareb, Secretary General of the Dubai Sports Council, praised the organizational level and community interaction that accompanied the tournament, stressing that the event provided an innovative interactive sports experience that strengthened Dubai’s position as a global sports destination, in line with the goals of the Dubai Sports Plan 2033 and the Year of the Family 2026.

The closing activities witnessed the holding of “All Stars” exhibition matches with the participation of elite players from the tournament in four teams representing the continents of Asia, Europe, Africa and North America. A match for third and fourth place was also held between Syria and Lebanon, in addition to a number of interactive activities and competitions intended for the public.

At the conclusion of the tournament, representatives of the Ministry of Sports, the Dubai Sports Council, and the organizing committee honored the North American team that won the title, and those in advanced positions and distinguished players were also honored.

The total value of the tournament prizes amounted to 130,000 dirhams, of which 50,000 dirhams were allocated to the public, in a step aimed at enhancing public attendance and encouraging families and communities to participate in community sporting events.
