Cooperation between Abu Dhabi Health and…"msd" To consider establishing a regional center for healthcare logistics services

SAN DIEGO, June 25 / WAM / The Department of Health – Abu Dhabi signed a strategic cooperation agreement with MSD International Pharmaceuticals, also known as Merck & Co. Inc., New Jersey, United States, to discuss establishing a healthcare logistics center within the Health, Medicine and Fitness for Sustainable Living Complex in Abu Dhabi, in a way that enhances the security of regional medical supply chains, accelerates the arrival of innovative treatments, and consolidates the emirate’s position as a global center for life sciences.

The agreement was signed as part of Abu Dhabi’s participation in the 2026 Biotechnology Innovation Organization World Conference, held in San Diego, United States of America, in a step that reflects the emirate’s commitment to developing an integrated health system based on innovation, and strengthens its position as a reliable global center for operational excellence and innovation in the health sector.

When all necessary approvals are met and construction work is completed, the center will support the transfer and distribution of a range of pharmaceutical products to a number of regional markets, enhancing the flexibility of supply chains in the region, improving access to innovative treatments, and providing the necessary infrastructure to support the commercialization and expansion of next-generation healthcare innovations.

This cooperation embodies the integration between the supportive regulatory environment in Abu Dhabi and the strategic requirements of global partners seeking to enhance the flexibility of supply chains. Through this partnership, MSD will gain direct access to an advanced and interconnected distribution system, thus enhancing the emirate’s position as a safe regional market for developing and launching new generation medical solutions.

Her Excellency Dr. Noura Khamis Al Ghaithi, Undersecretary of the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi, confirmed that Merck & Co.’s choice of Abu Dhabi to establish its regional center reflects the advanced capabilities that the emirate enjoys, thanks to its integrated model for smart life sciences that links advanced research, population genomics, flexible infrastructure, and global distribution paths, which accelerates the arrival of the latest treatments to patients and enhances Abu Dhabi’s global leadership in health innovation.

For his part, Ashraf Malak, General Manager of MSD for the Gulf States, Libya and Egypt, said that the partnership embodies the common ambition to strengthen health care systems by employing global expertise and the advanced system in Abu Dhabi, which contributes to enhancing the flexibility of delivering innovation, accelerating the arrival of innovative treatments, and achieving better health outcomes for communities.
