المملكة: Water digitization…artificial intelligence to reduce waste and enhance national security


Confirmed Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture would employ Artificial intelligence in the water sector has become a national necessity to enhance Water Security, revealing that every riyal invested in digitalization saves five riyals of operational waste.

This came during a specialized dialogue session entitled “Digital Transformation in the Water Sector from Data to Decision,” within the activities of the first Saudi Water Week in Jeddah.

The session reviewed the ministry’s efforts in establishing the “Data Lake” project as a unified institutional structure, to support advanced analyzes and strategic decision-making.

It indicated that artificial intelligence constitutes a fundamental pillar for reducing water loss and achieving the goals of Saudi Vision 2030 in sustainability.

The participants in the session explained that the real challenge does not lie in the availability of data within water networks, but rather in the ability to collect, analyze, and act accordingly. The discussions highlighted the impact of digital growth and data centers on the consumption of water resources, while examining ways to rationalize them through international sustainability indicators.

In this context, the Ministry revealed the completion of the first phase of green data centers, to build a technical infrastructure that keeps pace with international best practices.
