Aldar Education concludes the first edition of "National Memory League"

ABU DHABI, 2nd July, 2017 (WAM) – Aldar Education concluded the first edition of the “Memory of a Nation League” competition, which organized its activities at the Zayed National Museum and brought together students from Aldar Education schools and the affiliated Educational Partnerships schools.

This initiative comes in line with the UAE’s trends in promoting the Arabic language and consolidating national identity in the educational system as a basic pillar in building students’ personalities.

The competition witnessed the participation of 204 male and female students from 17 schools, competing in academic rounds based on the “The Emirates Our History” curriculum, which aims to deepen students’ knowledge of the UAE’s history, heritage, national values, and cultural achievements.

Sahar Cooper, CEO of Aldar Education, said that initiatives such as the “Memory of a Nation League” embody our vision of the role of education in preparing generations that possess knowledge, identity, and belonging at the same time, noting that national identity and promoting the Arabic language are not limited to school curricula, but rather constitute an essential part of building character and creating future leaders.

The “Memory of a Nation League” deepens students’ knowledge of the history of the UAE, enriches their appreciation for the nation’s heritage, achievements and authentic values, while instilling a strong sense of belonging and national pride.

The competition was based on the “Emirates History” curriculum, which deals with major historical events, national symbols, cultural heritage, and the country’s cultural achievements. It also reflected the pivotal role of the Arabic language as a container for national identity and a means of preserving the country’s cultural and historical memory, thus enhancing students’ connection to their language and national heritage.

Six schools qualified for the final stage after an outstanding performance during the qualifications. The final stage witnessed the six schools competing in three age categories, where each school represented teams of students who demonstrated a distinguished level of knowledge of the history of the UAE and its national heritage.

The organization of the closing stage at the Zayed National Museum gained special importance, as it is one of the most prominent national cultural edifices that celebrates the legacy of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, and reflects Abu Dhabi’s pioneering role in preserving the national heritage and enhancing awareness of the history of the UAE among new generations.
