"START AD" Launches an index to accelerate the adoption of responsible artificial intelligence in the healthcare sector

ABU DHABI, 6 JULY / WAM / StartAD, the Abu Dhabi-based startup accelerator, supported by Tamkeen, based at NYU Abu Dhabi, announced the launch of the Artificial Intelligence Adoption Index, which was developed through its “AI for Good” initiative and with support from “Google.org”.
The index is based on the visions and opinions of 52 institutions based in the UAE, to provide the first realistic reading supported by the opinions of practitioners and specialists on how institutions in the health care and social impact sectors adopt artificial intelligence and apply it on the ground.
In light of the growing trend towards adopting artificial intelligence technologies in various fields, many institutions are looking for practical guidance to transform this interest into actual, fruitful steps.
Key priorities in this regard include identifying meaningful and valuable use cases, establishing governance frameworks, allocating resources efficiently, and implementing solutions responsibly.
It also highlights the importance of defining clear measurement indicators to evaluate performance, as well as ensuring that successful use cases can be systematically expanded beyond the boundaries of individual projects and begin comprehensive adoption at the enterprise level as a whole.
In the healthcare sector, the study showed that 81% of organizations surveyed have already identified use cases for AI, while 58% have begun testing or deploying and implementing solutions.
In this regard, StartAD has launched two practical implementation guides: The AI Use Case Discovery Guide helps organizations turn initial ideas into testable use cases, without the need for a specialized technical background, while the AI Solutions Evaluation and Testing Guide guides teams through the stages of evaluating and selecting solutions and running responsible pilot projects within their current operations.
Ashwin Joshi, Director of the StartAD platform, said that the “AI for Good” initiative was launched to help organizations with societal and development goals move from the stage of interest in artificial intelligence to the practical adoption of its technologies.
For his part, Anthony Nakash, Executive General Manager of Google in the Middle East and North Africa, said that although artificial intelligence may seem complex, we are fully confident in the ability of healthcare institutions to adopt and benefit from its technologies, and this project comes to address the prevailing belief that the effective and influential use of artificial intelligence requires huge financial resources or highly specialized technical expertise.
He added that the support provided by Google.org for the StartAD platform falls within Google’s regional initiative for artificial intelligence opportunities, with the aim of enhancing access to healthcare services for communities with less access to services throughout the UAE.
The “AI for Good” initiative has so far succeeded in working with five institutions through 13 workshops dedicated to measuring the extent of their readiness to adopt artificial intelligence, which contributed to achieving an overall increase of 43% in the level of readiness to adopt artificial intelligence technologies in their operations. The initiative also succeeded in attracting approximately 200 university students and solution developers in the UAE, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and the Middle East and North Africa region in general.
