المملكة: Saving the life of a high-risk pregnant woman suffering from severe mitral valve stenosis

The treating team explained that the patient visited the medical city during the thirty-seventh week of pregnancy while suffering from advanced heart symptoms that required medical intervention. Urgently, the case was dealt with according to a precise treatment plan in which several specialties participated, including obstetrics and gynecology, fetal medicine, high-risk pregnancy, cardiology, cardiac anesthesia, intensive care, and neonatal care.
After completing the necessary medical examinations and evaluations, and holding extensive discussions with the patient and her family about the available treatment options, it was decided to perform a cesarean section under the supervision of an integrated team, which was crowned with success, while preserving the safety of the mother and newborn.
The patient also had her fallopian tubes removed as a permanent preventive measure, given the serious health risks that pregnancy might pose to her life in the future due to her complex heart condition.
The patient left King Saud Medical City in stable condition, with an integrated treatment plan that includes replacing the mitral valve within a period ranging from 6 to 8 weeks after birth, which contributes to improving her health condition and quality of life.
