"World Meteorology" Warns of escalating risks in the Southwest Pacific
Warned The World Meteorological Organization Today, there is an escalation in risks threatening the southwestern region The Pacific Ocean, as a result of rising ocean temperatures, recurrence of marine heat waves, and rising sea levels.
The organization said in its annual report: "The region witnessed the second hottest year since the beginning of climate data recording (after 2024), which was characterized by extreme weather events that caused widespread unrest, economic damage, and loss of life."
The return of El Nino
The organization indicated that the year 2025 was the worst in terms of Heat wavesin the absence of the El Niño phenomenon, expressing its concern about the possibility of this phenomenon returning in 2026.
In its report, the organization pointed to the rise in water temperature and the increase in its acidity; Which harms activities and ecosystems, and the rise in sea levels threatens the inhabitants of coastal areas and low-lying island states.
