The Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure launches the Emirates Monitoring Center to enhance the flexibility of the national electrical grid

Dubai, 9 July / WAM / The Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure launched the Emirates Monitoring Centre, in a strategic step aimed at enhancing the flexibility and reliability of the unified national electrical network, through a national platform for real-time monitoring that links electricity service providers in the country, which are the Emirates Water and Electricity Company, the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, the Sharjah Electricity, Water and Gas Authority, and Al-Ittihad Water and Electricity.
The launch of the center comes within the Ministry’s efforts to develop a more integrated and efficient national electrical system that supports energy security and sustainability of supplies, and keeps pace with the increasing growth in demand for electricity, in line with the goals of the UAE Energy Strategy 2050.
The center relies on the Spectrum Power SCADA V23 Q4 platform from Siemens, which is one of the latest monitoring and control systems used globally, representing a qualitative leap in the management and operation of the national electrical network, by providing a comprehensive and immediate view of its various components, and enhancing the efficiency of monitoring, control and decision-making.
The center allows real-time monitoring of the performance of the national electrical grid, which has an installed production capacity of about 48 gigawatts, through continuous monitoring of key operational indicators, including electrical loads, frequency, voltage, and energy exchange, in addition to ensuring the smooth exchange of operational data across the UAE National Grid (ENG) corridor extending from Abu Dhabi to the Northern Emirates, thus enhancing integration between the various electricity service providers in the country.
His Excellency Engineer Sherif Al Olama, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure for Energy and Petroleum Affairs, stressed that the launch of the Emirates Monitoring Center, in cooperation with strategic partners, represents an important milestone in the development process of the national electricity system, and reflects the ministry’s commitment to employing the latest digital technologies to enhance the efficiency and reliability of the national electrical network, and to support the country’s readiness for the requirements of the energy sector in the future.
He added that the center contributes to enhancing the flexibility of the energy infrastructure, and raising the country’s readiness to predict, manage, and respond to operational challenges efficiently, whether now or in the future. It will also support the use of artificial intelligence techniques in scenario planning, predictive analysis, and modeling of the electricity system, which enhances more accurate and proactive decision-making, and consolidates the energy sector’s readiness to keep pace with future changes.”
For his part, Helmut von Struff, CEO of Siemens in the UAE and the Middle East, said that the Emirates Monitoring Center represents an important achievement for the energy sector in the UAE, as it provides for the first time a unified national platform that allows real-time monitoring of the performance of the electrical network across the various emirates of the country, thus enhancing integration between electricity service providers and raising the efficiency of management and operation of the national grid.
He expressed pride in partnering with the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure in implementing this national project, which was completed within a record period using the latest energy management systems from Siemens.
He explained that the center was designed to keep pace with the future development of the energy system in the UAE, and supports the integration of renewable energy sources, strengthening electrical interconnection projects, and building a smarter, more flexible and sustainable national electrical network.
The inauguration of the Emirates Monitoring Center comes within the framework of the efforts of the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure to develop a smarter, more flexible and sustainable national electrical system, based on employing the latest digital technologies and artificial intelligence, and enhancing integration between the concerned parties, in a way that supports the objectives of the UAE Energy Strategy 2050, and consolidates the UAE’s position as a global model in developing advanced infrastructure capable of keeping pace with the requirements of sustainable development, ensuring energy security, and enhancing the country’s readiness for the future.
