Skopje, 14 July / WAM / A delegation from the Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Center, headed by His Excellency Dr. Ali bin Tamim, President of the Center, discussed with the relevant officials in the Republic of North Macedonia opportunities for academic and cultural cooperation, and mechanisms for building sustainable partnerships with educational and cultural institutions, within the framework of preparations for the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair 2026, scheduled to be held at the ADNEC Center Abu Dhabi during the period from 13 to 18 September 2026, in a way that highlights what… The region is full of cultural, linguistic, literary and artistic diversity.
During its visit to the capital, Skopje, the delegation discussed opportunities for publishing houses, museums, national libraries and Macedonian cultural institutions to participate in the exhibition activities, in addition to supporting the teaching of the Arabic language in universities, encouraging the translation and publishing movement, and cooperating in preserving and digitizing documentary heritage, in a way that enhances cultural and knowledge exchange between the two sides.
The delegation began its meetings with a visit to the University of Saints Cyril and Methodius in the capital, Skopje, where His Excellency Dr. Ali bin Tamim met with Dr. Vladimir Martinovsky, Dean of the Faculty of Philology, and discussed with him ways to enhance academic cooperation between the university and the Abu Dhabi Center for the Arabic Language, mechanisms for developing academic exchange programs, and the possibility of creating an academic path to teach the Arabic language at the university, in addition to cooperation in preparing and publishing Macedonian-Arabic dictionaries, which contributes to supporting linguistic studies and enhancing cultural rapprochement between the two countries.
His Excellency Dr. Ali bin Tamim also held a meeting with Maria Georgova, Secretary General of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of North Macedonia, and they discussed ways to enhance cultural cooperation, encourage Macedonian publishing houses to participate in the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair 2026, and highlight the culture of the Balkan region within the cultural program of the exhibition, in addition to discussing the participation of Macedonian museums and cultural institutions in its activities, enhancing the exchange of translation and publishing rights, and expanding the participation of Macedonian cultural institutions in the programs and events of Arab Days.
As part of introducing the civilizational and cultural heritage of the Republic of North Macedonia, the delegation visited the Archaeological Museum in the capital, Skopje, and met Magdalena Manashkova, director of the museum, where they viewed the museum’s holdings, which is considered one of the most prominent cultural edifices in the country, and includes more than 6,000 artifacts documenting the history of the region from prehistoric times, through the classical and medieval ages, all the way to the modern era.
The two sides also discussed the possibility of cooperation in the field of joint publishing, and displaying the museum’s publications and specialized publications within the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair, which contributes to introducing the cultural heritage of the Republic of North Macedonia.
The delegation visited the Saint Clement of Ochridian National and University Library, where it met with Jovica Nikchevsky, director of the library, and discussed with him ways of cooperation between the library and the Abu Dhabi Center for the Arabic Language in the fields of preserving and preserving documentary heritage and making it available to researchers.
The delegation reviewed the collection of Arabic manuscripts maintained by the library, which includes about 2,000 Arabic manuscripts representing a scientific and cultural heritage that reflects the depth of historical ties.
The two sides also discussed the possibility of displaying selections from these manuscripts within the activities of the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair 2026, in addition to examining opportunities for cooperation in digitizing Arabic manuscripts, and implementing joint projects that contribute to preserving this heritage and making it available to researchers, in a way that enhances cultural and knowledge exchange between the two countries.
In the context of academic cooperation, the delegation met with Borcho Aleksov, Higher Education Advisor at the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of North Macedonia, and they discussed mechanisms for supporting Arabic language teaching in Macedonian universities, developing specialized academic programs and tracks, and discussing the accreditation of Arabic language programs in higher education institutions, in addition to developing curricula, qualifying educational staff, and expanding academic exchange programs in a way that enhances the presence of the Arabic language in the Macedonian university environment.
