Under the directives of Mohammed bin Rashid, Dubai Humanitarian Center directs its fourth relief shipment to Uganda as part of its air bridge in support of the fight against Ebola.

Dubai, 14 July / WAM / Based on the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, may God protect him, Dubai Humanitarian Center directed the fourth relief shipment to Uganda, the third on board a plane belonging to the Royal Aviation Wing in Dubai, as part of supporting the ongoing efforts to combat the outbreak of the Ebola virus in that region.
The shipment was flown to the Ugandan city of Entebbe, carrying 72.5 metric tons of aid allocated to support communities affected by the spread of the virus. These supplies were provided by the United Nations Humanitarian Response Warehouse of the World Food Program and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) from their proactive stock in Dubai humanitarian warehouses.
The shipment included water purification equipment to help prevent waterborne diseases, mobile storage units and generators to operate treatment centers in areas that lack stable electrical supplies, in addition to living equipment to provide temporary shelter for patients and medical teams.
The shipment also included data recording devices to help health teams track the temperatures of vaccines and sensitive medicines within the cold chain, in addition to equipment that contributes to achieving the necessary hygiene standards to prevent the spread of the virus outbreak.
Giuseppe Saba, Executive Director and Board Member of Dubai Humanitarian Affairs, said: “With four air shipments carried out so far, this operation confirms what consistency of leadership and clarity of vision can achieve. The UAE and the Dubai government have been keen to create all the conditions that enable our partners to transport humanitarian aid when needed, and this is exactly what a response to such a health emergency requires.”
Saba added: “The value of these relief materials does not lie in their remaining inside the warehouses, but in their arrival to those who need them and benefit from them. We are talking, for example, about a nurse setting up a treatment unit, or a family that is now able to access safe drinking water. This is the essence of this shipment, and what drives Dubai Humanitarian Center to continue supporting this emergency humanitarian response, and to send emergency relief shipments one after another.”
This shipment of aid is added to a series of intensive operations carried out by Dubai Humanitarian Affairs during the current year, as it has to date sent 9 air and land shipments exceeding 450 metric tons in response to the emergency crises in Gaza, Lebanon, Mozambique and Afghanistan, within the framework of the city’s mission to support the international humanitarian community and through close coordination with all its partners.
As a global center that hosts international humanitarian organizations and with its capabilities represented by highly efficient logistical and storage capabilities and effective means of transportation that these organizations need, Dubai Humanitarian Center confirms its commitment to continuing its efforts to deliver aid to those affected by crises, wherever they are and whenever it is needed.
