Trump pays $5.6 million in E. Jean Carroll case after court ruling

US President Donald Trump paid about $5.6 million to writer E. Jean Carroll, in implementation of a court ruling issued in 2023 after a New York jury concluded that he assaulted her in 1996 and defamed her later. The amount includes the original compensation of $5 million in addition to accrued interest.

US President Donald Trump on Tuesday paid millions of dollars in compensation, three years after a court ruled that Trump sexually assaulted American author E. Jean Carroll in 1996 and defamed her reputation.
Carroll received about $5.6 million, according to court documents and her attorney. This amount includes the $5 million compensation that Trump was ordered to pay in 2023, in addition to accrued interest that has accumulated since then.

Carroll’s lawyer said that his client (82 years old) will invest the money at the present time, since the US Supreme Court has not yet issued its final decision in the case.
A New York jury concluded in 2023 that Trump attacked the American writer in 1996 inside an upscale department store in New York, sexually assaulted her, and later defamed her. The authority ordered him to pay compensation amounting to $5 million.
Trump has always denied these accusations. Although criminal prosecution was no longer possible due to the expiration of the legal deadline, the civil lawsuit remained open.
Trump had failed in several attempts to appeal the ruling and stop paying compensation.
