Liwa Dates Festival crowns the winners of "Al-Khunaizi" and"Lemon"
Al Dhafra, July 17, 2017 – The organizing committee of the Liwa Dates Festival crowned the winners of the “Al Khunaizi Dates Decoration” and the “Lemon” competition in both categories (local and variety), which took place in a competitive heritage atmosphere within the twenty-second session held in the city of Liwa in the Al Dhafra region, and continues to attract wide participation from farmers and a remarkable presence from lovers of authentic heritage until July 23 of this month.
The shields were presented to the winners by His Excellency Obaid Khalfan Al Mazrouei, Executive Director of the Festivals and Events Sector at the Abu Dhabi Heritage Authority, yesterday evening in the presence of representatives of supporting and participating entities, farm owners, and visitors to the festival.
In the results of the “Rutab Al-Khunaizi auction”, Salem Abdullah Muhammad Hashel Al-Qaidi came in first place, and in second place was the heirs of Ali Mubarak Sultan Al-Ariani, while Hamad Suhail Qanzoul Al-Shamsi came in third place.
15 prizes were allocated for the Al Khunaizi date tree decoration, with a total value of 397 thousand dirhams. Its organization aims to celebrate the quality of the date palm grown and cared for on the country’s farms, to enhance the status of the date palm as an authentic national heritage symbol, and to encourage farmers to pay attention to agricultural wealth.
The “Local Lemon” competition resulted in Hamad Damithan Khalfan Al Shamsi winning first place, while Aousha Mohammed Abdullah came in second place, and Kanna Daeef Saif came in third place.
In the “Assorted Lemon” category, Saeed Fadel Saeed Mohammed Al Hameli achieved first place, Ali Ateeq Mohammed Atshan Al Hameli came in second place, and Abdullah Abdul Rahman Nasser Ayed Al Otaibi came in third place, as the organizing committee for the lemon (local and variety) competition allocated 10 prizes worth 117 thousand dirhams for each category.
Liwa Dates activities witness a large audience attending daily the activities and competitions allocated to visitors with their various interests on the main stage, the popular market, and the pavilions of the supporting and participating parties.
