المملكة: Traffic safety: A third of accident deaths are among young people… and “safe distance” is the first cause

Disclosure of the annual report For Traffic Safetyfor the year 2025 AD, issued by the Ministerial Committee for Traffic Safety, the young age group topped the list of victims of traffic accidents, as their death rate exceeded a third of the overall total recorded during the year.

Young people…the highest percentage of deaths

The official statistics detailed in the report showed that the young age group extending from 19 to 30 years recorded the highest percentage of deaths with 33.5% of the total accident victims, followed by the age group from 31 to 40 years, forming a It is 25%.

With regard to the younger groups, the data showed that the group under 18 years of age had a death rate of 18.8%, while the children group alone represented 12% of the total traffic deaths.

Main causes of accidents

In a careful analysis of the causes of traffic accidents that were monitored, the violation of not leaving a safe distance between standing vehicles topped the list, causing 29.2% of the total accidents. Sudden vehicle swerves came in second place with a close rate of 27.9%.

The list of other causes included failure to comply with the right of way, which came in third place with a rate of 10.3%, followed by distraction from driving at 7%, then driving against the direction of traffic, which constituted 5.6% of the total causes of recorded accidents.

Collision Patterns and Classification of Injuries

The ministerial report indicated that Moving vehicles colliding with each other is the dominant and most frequent pattern with a rate of 92.8%. The remaining percentages were distributed among other types, which included colliding with a fixed object at a rate of 2.1%, colliding with a stationary vehicle at a rate of 1.8%, vehicle rollovers at a rate of 1.5%, and run-over accidents at a rate of 1.4%.

Despite the relatively low percentage of run-over accidents as a type of collision, the report pointed out that run-over accident deaths constituted 17% of the total traffic deaths, which reflects the seriousness of this pattern.

With regard to the classification of the seriousness of injuries resulting from all accidents, moderate injuries constituted the largest percentage at 63%, followed by serious injuries at 35%, while the percentage of minor injuries was limited to 2%.

Citizens… the highest in accidents

With regard to the distribution of accidents and deaths according to nationalities, the data showed that deaths of Saudi citizens constituted 51.3% of the total, followed by residents of Pakistani nationality at 9.1%, then nationality Yemeni by 8%.

On the other hand, according to the rate of accidents, Saudi drivers recorded 51.4%, followed by drivers of Pakistani nationality with 10.1%, then Yemeni nationality with 8.7%.

The annual traffic safety report concluded by emphasizing that statistical indicators require urgent intervention to correct wrong traffic behaviors, especially among young people.

The recommendations stressed the importance of full compliance with the rules. Walking, primarily paying constant attention, leaving a sufficient distance, and avoiding sudden deviations, are the basic measures to reduce accident rates and reduce human and material losses.
