Abu Dhabi Police organizes an awareness session on the dangers of drugs at Madinat Zayed Council

Al Dhafra, July 20, 2017 – The Community Police Department at the Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters, in cooperation with the Abu Dhabi Councils in the Office of Citizens and Community Affairs in the Presidential Office, organized an awareness session in the Zayed City Council in the Al Dhafra region, entitled “Uniting ranks to eradicate the scourge,” in the Zayed City Council in Al Dhafra, within the national campaign to combat drugs and the Year of the Family 2026 initiatives, as part of its ongoing efforts to enhance community awareness and establish a preventive culture. Enabling families to protect their children from the dangers of drugs and their effects on the security and stability of society.
Major Saleh Rabie Salem Al Hammadi, from the Anti-Narcotics Department in Al Dhafra Region, stressed that enhancing community awareness represents one of the most important axes of drug prevention, noting that the family is the first line of defense in protecting children from dangerous behaviors, through early containment, enhancing family dialogue, and consolidating positive values that contribute to building a generation that is aware and capable of facing challenges.
He explained that Abu Dhabi Police continues to implement its awareness programs according to a methodology based on partnership with community institutions, in a way that enhances the security and preventive culture and raises the level of social responsibility, stressing that community councils are influential platforms for delivering awareness messages and consolidating the concepts of prevention among members of society.
The session reviewed the most prominent types of drugs and psychotropic substances, the factors that may lead to abuse, and their health, social, and security repercussions. It also shed light on the efforts of Abu Dhabi Police in the areas of control and prevention, and introducing the “A Chance of Hope” service that supports treatment and rehabilitation, in addition to educating attendees about the means of reporting suspicious cases through “Aman” by calling 8002626, by sending a text message to 2828, or by email. “aman@adpolice.gov.ae”.
The council witnessed interaction from the audience through a number of interventions and inquiries related to methods of prevention and strengthening the role of the family in protecting children, while the participants called for intensifying the holding of awareness councils and lectures in different regions, because of their tangible impact in raising the level of community awareness and strengthening partnership in drug prevention.
