Fujairah Environment Authority participates in the meetings of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee in Korea
Busan, July 21 / WAM / The Fujairah Environment Authority is participating, as part of the UAE delegation, in the work of the 48th session of the World Heritage Committee of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), which is being held in the city of Busan, Republic of Korea, during the period from 19 to 29 July, with the participation of representatives of member states and experts specialized in the fields of natural and cultural heritage.
This participation comes in conjunction with the World Heritage Committee’s consideration of the nomination file for the Wadi Wurayah Reserve in the Emirate of Fujairah for inclusion on the World Heritage List, in a step that reflects the environmental and cultural status of the reserve, and the unique biological and geological diversity it enjoys at the regional and international levels.
The Authority’s delegation participates in the accompanying meetings and sessions, and reviews national efforts in the field of protecting natural heritage and environmental reserves, in addition to highlighting the environmental importance of Wadi Wurayah Reserve, which extends over an area of 220 square kilometers and includes 1,099 species of living creatures and plants. The reserve has been included in the UNESCO Global Biosphere Reserve Network (MAP) since 2018.
The Fujairah Environment Authority’s participation in this international forum embodies its commitment to supporting national efforts aimed at preserving natural heritage, enhancing cooperation with international organizations, and exchanging experiences and best practices in the areas of environmental protection and biodiversity, in line with the UAE’s vision of achieving sustainable development and preserving natural resources.
