Cooperation between "Purehealth" and"National Multiple Sclerosis" To enhance awareness of multiple sclerosis in the country
Abu Dhabi, July 24 / WAM / PureHealth signed a memorandum of understanding with the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, to establish strategic cooperation aimed at enhancing awareness of multiple sclerosis, supporting early diagnosis, and improving the quality of care provided to patients in the UAE, during the signing ceremony hosted by Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City.
The cooperation brings together the clinical expertise and integrated capabilities of PureHealth, and the association’s role in supporting patients and community education, in a way that enhances national and global efforts aimed at developing research on finding a treatment for the disease, and is consistent with PureHealth’s role as a founding member of the National Multiple Sclerosis Partnership Program, which aims to establish coordinated care based on scientific evidence.
Multiple sclerosis is a chronic neurological disease that affects the brain and spinal cord, causing physical, cognitive, and motor challenges that often appear in early and mid-adulthood, while the number of people affected globally is estimated at about 2.9 million people.
The cooperation is based on supporting the implementation of the first treatment guidelines document for multiple sclerosis in the UAE, prepared by the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, which contributes to developing the diagnosis and treatment of the disease, enhancing early access to highly effective treatments based on the latest scientific evidence, improving the harmonization of insurance coverage, and providing consistent health care.
It pays special attention to the groups most vulnerable to complications, including pregnant and breastfeeding women and children, while establishing a patient-centered approach that enhances their participation in making treatment decisions, in addition to supporting the multiple sclerosis research and data system in the country, developing local visions, and enriching national studies, medical records, and scientific publications by enhancing cooperation between doctors, researchers, and health authorities.
The agreement provides for enhancing the clinical capabilities of more than 1,300 health personnel through accredited continuing medical education programs supervised by specialists in multiple sclerosis, in line with the directives of the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi, and supports neurologists and multidisciplinary teams in improving diagnosis and management of the disease, in addition to empowering nursing personnel, and expanding community awareness programs for patients and caregivers through dedicated sessions, electronic seminars, workshops and digital campaigns to enhance awareness of the symptoms of the disease and the importance of early detection.
Lea Al-Damani, Chief Sustainability Officer at PureHealth Group, said that the partnership embodies the group’s commitment to harnessing clinical expertise, data, and integrated care pathways to enhance diagnosis and early intervention, and improve long-term health outcomes, in a way that supports building an interconnected preventive health care system that puts the patient at the heart of its priorities.
For her part, Maral Alexandrian, Acting Executive Director of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, said that improving the care of patients with multiple sclerosis requires integrated efforts between health care, awareness and community support, stressing that the partnership with “PureHealth” will contribute to raising the level of awareness, enhancing early intervention, and providing more integrated support to patients and their families, leading to a more interconnected and comprehensive system.
