Venezuela is “not ready” to hold elections
Trump told reporters at the White House: “Regarding the elections in Venezuela, they are not fully prepared now, but great progress has been made.”

He praised Acting Venezuelan President Delcy Rodriguez, who was Vice President during the Maduro era and whom Washington is cooperating with, considering that she is “doing a wonderful job.”
Trump also stressed the importance of the Venezuelan oil sector, praising what he described as a large amount of exported oil. “We also take a lot of it for our business,” he said.
He added: “I am very popular in Venezuela because we are rebuilding a wonderful economy for the country, after it was dying.”
Maduro arrested
Trump has repeatedly expressed his enthusiasm for Venezuela after the US military arrested Nicolas Maduro and his wife during a military operation in Caracas on January 3.
Since then, Trump and his government have avoided announcing a clear position on the possibility of holding new elections.
In January, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced that Venezuela first needs a free press and a new electoral commission.
The presidential elections in 2024 granted Nicolas Maduro a new term, but the results were not recognized by the United States, the European Union, and some Latin American countries.
