Al Ain Dates Festival highlights crafts related to the palm tree in support of producers and craftsmen
Al Ain, July 26, 2017 – The Al Ain Date Festival, in its first session, focused on crafts related to the palm tree, giving it a distinct space that goes beyond its presentation as being inherited, to present it as a productive activity that can be developed and a source of support for craftsmen and productive families.
Through the competitions and events accompanying the festival, which is being held at Al Sarooj Park in Al Ain until July 31, parts of the palm tree have been transformed into products that combine function and beauty, while at the same time preserving the authenticity of Emirati craftsmanship.
This vision is highlighted in the “The Most Beautiful Rutab Myth” competition, which celebrates one of the traditional tools associated with the sheep season, and invites participants to make and decorate it according to inherited methods and using the natural materials associated with it, as this practice can contribute to the development of the myth to perform modern practical or aesthetic functions, restoring its presence in contemporary life while preserving its heritage identity and its place in the agricultural environment.
The “Creativity from the Palm Trunk” competition offers a different field of innovation, through the use of palm trunks in artistic sculptural works inspired by elements of Emirati heritage, which allows the possibility of developing pieces that combine use and adornment, and may pave the way for their transformation into collectible contemporary products, thus reproducing their heritage presence and opening new horizons for craftsmen to reach their works to the public and markets.
