"Climate change and environment" 30 inspection campaigns are carried out on 269 facilities in all emirates of the country
Dubai, July 27 / WAM / The Ministry of Climate Change and Environment, in cooperation with the relevant local authorities, implemented, during the first half of this year, 30 joint inspection campaigns that included all the emirates of the country, targeting 269 establishments that include pet shops, livestock and bird markets, nurseries, and other outlets, as part of its efforts to enhance compliance with environmental legislation and raise the efficiency of the control and inspection system.
The campaigns resulted in the referral of 104 establishments to the competent authorities and committees to complete the regulatory procedures, sending warnings to 45 establishments to rectify their conditions, and closing 31 establishments proven to be in violation of applicable legislation and requirements, in addition to stopping the activity of 16 establishments until the causes of the violation were removed and the legal requirements were adhered to.
The campaigns aim to verify the extent of facilities’ compliance with environmental laws and legislation, and to harmonize their practices with approved systems, including animal welfare and environmental safety laws, and legislation regulating international trade in endangered animals and plants, in a way that contributes to protecting the environment, preserving natural resources and achieving sustainability.
His Excellency Marwan Abdullah Al Zaabi, Assistant Undersecretary for the Regions Sector at the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment, said that these inspection campaigns reflect the Ministry’s approach based on partnership and integration of roles between the Ministry and the competent local authorities, which enhances the efficiency of the system of control and enforcement of environmental legislation at the state level, establishes a culture of compliance, and raises the level of facilities’ compliance with the laws and requirements regulating their activities.
He added that the Ministry attaches great importance to informing community members about environmental legislation, regulations, and the penalties resulting from violating them, based on the firm conviction that raising awareness represents a basic foundation for enhancing compliance and voluntary commitment, noting that at the same time, the Ministry continues to implement laws and regulations, while raising the awareness of all concerned, including merchants and breeders, of the importance of these laws in the sustainability of all relevant sectors and in order to achieve all the development goals that the Ministry is working to achieve in the areas of food security, biodiversity, nature conservation, and the environment.
The campaigns also included establishments that practice related activities and had not completed the required procedures. The Ministry, in coordination with the economic development departments, circulated to the owners and proprietors of animal establishments the necessity of reconciling their situations and obtaining Ministry licenses, and gave them a grace period before taking legal measures against non-compliant people.
The Ministry continues to develop the oversight and compliance system by modernizing procedures, adopting digital solutions, and creating mechanisms for governance of operations and automating the electronic compliance system in the inspection and auditing of licensed environmental, agricultural, animal, and fishery establishments, which contributes to accelerating procedures, raising the efficiency of oversight and inspection, and enhancing the accuracy of follow-up, in support of the objectives of the government bureaucracy zeroing program.
The ministry’s specialists also continue to monitor electronic accounts on various social media platforms that display or promote content that violates relevant legislation, and take the necessary legal measures against violators, including issuing judicial arrest reports.
