المملكة: During 2026…the Kingdom will host a conference on water desalination and reuse
The International Desalination and Reuse Association (IDRA) announced that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has been selected to host the 2026 IDRA World Desalination and Reuse Conference.
This came during its current session, which is being held in the Emirati capital, Abu Dhabi, under the slogan “Addressing Water Scarcity,” with the participation of an elite group of experts and specialists from all countries of the world.
The Kingdom’s leading position
This selection confirms the Kingdom’s leadership position, as it is one of the most important global players in the water sector and a supporter of sustainability and water security efforts and initiatives.
This selection reinforces the Kingdom’s leadership position in confronting water challenges, as it is the largest global producer of desalinated water and has a long track record of technical innovations and sustainable initiatives.
This is after it was able, through its giant projects, to achieve significant and qualitative progress in enhancing water security, using advanced water desalination and innovative reuse technologies.
Achieving sustainable development
This comes within the framework of the Kingdom’s commitment to Vision 2030, which seeks to achieve sustainable development and develop strategic sectors, of which the water sector is one of its most prominent axes.
This has made Saudi Arabia a global center for innovation in water desalination and renewable energy technologies.

Discuss the growing water challenges
In its anticipated edition, the conference will provide an international platform to discuss growing water challenges, including water scarcity and the impact of climate change.
It will bring together elite experts and specialists from more than 60 countries, to review the latest technical innovations and sustainable solutions in the field of water.
It will provide an opportunity to enhance international cooperation and build strategic partnerships, aimed at finding innovative and practical solutions to water problems at the global level.
The global confidence in choosing the Kingdom to host the next session confirms its continued efforts to enhance environmental sustainability and protect natural resources.

Most notable is the establishment of a global water organization based in Riyadh, to unify international efforts to comprehensively address water challenges.
In addition, the announcement coincided with the Kingdom’s hosting of the Conference of the Parties (COP16), which reflects its commitment to adopting innovative solutions to environmental and climate issues.
This is a commitment that supports its orientation towards achieving integration between water sustainability and environmental protection.
Shaping a sustainable water future
It is worth noting that the Kingdom’s hosting of the World Desalination Conference 2026 is another strategic step that confirms its pivotal role in shaping a sustainable water future, strengthening its position as a leading country in the field of water, combining technical development with strategic vision, and opening the door for the world to cooperate in facing increasing water challenges.
