UN expert: The Egyptian green energy strategy is consistent with the United Nations strategy

The international expert in sustainability and climate risk assessment at the United Nations, Ambassador Mostafa El-Sherbiny, confirmed that the Egyptian green energy strategy is consistent with the global road map adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in September 2022… saying: “President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi issued His instructions to the government to shift towards a green, low-carbon economy.” 

 

El-Sherbiny said, in an exclusive interview with the Nile News channel: Today, Saturday, “Based on the instructions of President Sisi, the Egyptian government developed Egypt’s Vision 2030 and the Egyptian Strategy for Climate Change in 2050 to be consistent with the global strategy for climate change and sustainable development, which relies on two basic points: that energy be available to all and its prices are appropriate.”

 

The international expert at the United Nations added that Egypt has achieved achievements regarding climate change, as it established solar energy plants in Benban. With a capacity of about 1,800 Giga, wind stations in the Gulf of Suez and Zaafarana with more than 2 Giga, and the Jabal Ataqa compressor station.

 

He pointed out that the Egyptian energy strategy has basic goals, which are reducing emissions. 33% by 2040, reaching 42% of new and renewable energy by 2035 and 60% by 2040, providing about 200 thousand job opportunities.

 

He pointed out that the Egyptian energy strategic goals contribute to compatibility with the new European energy legislation and the mechanism for adjusting carbon limits related to corporate sustainability, biodiversity, and the European Union plastics agreement. Pointing out that a higher committee was formed headed by Deputy Prime Minister Lieutenant General Kamel Al-Wazir. To comply with the Carbon Border Adjustment Agreement to reach global competition.
