The UAE begins its campaign in the Gulf Cricket Championship with a victory over Bahrain

Dubai, December 14 / WAM / The UAE cricket team began its campaign in the Second Gulf Championship hosted by Dubai with an important victory over its Bahraini counterpart by eight wickets, enhancing its chances of competing for the title of the second edition, in the tournament that was launched last year in Qatar and the title was won by the Omani team.

The opening day also witnessed Kuwait’s victory over Saudi Arabia by 6 wickets at the International Cricket Council Academy stadiums in Dubai.

Six Gulf teams are participating in the tournament: the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Bahrain, Kuwait and Qatar, under the supervision of the Emirates Cricket Council and the International Football Council. The current edition’s competitions include 16 matches held over nine days, including the final match.

Two matches are scheduled to be held tomorrow, the first bringing together the UAE national team with its Omani counterpart, the defending champion, and the second bringing together Saudi Arabia and Qatar.

Zayed Abbas, member of the Emirates Cricket Council and the official spokesman for the Council, praised the successful start of the Emirati team and the distinguished organization of the event, noting that the UAE’s experience in organizing many international, continental and global tournaments over the past ten years contributed to the organizational success.
