The Minister of Foreign Affairs meets with the Secretary-General of the International Civil Aviation Organization "ICAO"

Badr Abdel Aty, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration and Egyptian Affairs Abroad, received today, December 15, "Juan Carlos Salasar" Secretary General of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), and Dr. Sameh Al-Hafni, Minister of Civil Aviation and “Salvatore Sciacchitano” President of the ICAO Council, on the sidelines of the visit made by the organization’s leaders to Cairo to participate in the opening ceremony of the organization’s regional headquarters for the Middle East in Egypt after its renovation. Minister Abdel Aty stressed Egypt’s continued support for the organization and multilateral work, noting that Egypt’s hosting of the organization’s regional headquarters dates back to 1953, which reflects the depth and strength of historical relations with the organization. I also commend the organization’s pivotal role in facilitating air transport and advancing sustainable economic and social development around the world through continuous improvement of international aviation safety and security, expressing appreciation for the organization’s keenness to continue support and fruitful cooperation with the Egyptian civil aviation sector.
In the same context, the Minister of Foreign Affairs reviewed the constructive role played by Egypt in developing civil aviation in the Middle East and Africa as an international aviation hub, highlighting Egypt’s strategic position as a link between three continents.
He pointed to Egypt’s continuous endeavor to improve aviation safety by developing systems and regulations related to air safety, and activating all recommendations issued by ICAO in this regard, in addition to its ongoing efforts. To develop aviation infrastructure, including renewing and developing various civil airports.
At the conclusion of the meeting, Abdel Aty expressed Egypt’s aspiration to enhance the already existing fruitful cooperation with the organization to achieve common goals in improving the civil aviation sector and enhancing sustainability and safety, in a way that benefits all parties and contributes to developing the field of aviation at the regional and international levels, especially in the areas of capacity building.
