The Swiss Federal Council intends to establish new nuclear power plants

The Federal Council in Switzerland has put forward for consultation a counter-project to the popular initiative “Stop the power outages.” Which aims to ensure the rapid provision of safe and independent electricity supplies in Switzerland, as the government wants to leave the door open to the establishment of new stations, but without changing the constitution.
The Swiss radio and television network RT S reported that in In 2017, the Swiss people voted to phase out nuclear energy, however, the Union wants to retain the possibility of building new power plants on its territory.
The network added that the project “Stop the Blackouts,” put forward last year by the bourgeois coalition, calls for all climate-friendly methods of producing electricity to be included in the federal constitution. This would make it possible to build new nuclear power plants again.
However, the Federal Council rejects this initiative, and instead of changing the constitution, it hopes to change the nuclear energy law through its counter-project For the popular initiative “Stop the power outages” So that the construction of new power plants in Switzerland can be approved again.
The goal is to design an energy policy that is open to "different technologies" It integrates nuclear energy. However, the development of renewable energies remains a priority.
The government stresses that lifting the ban on the construction of new power plants has the advantage of allowing Switzerland to resort to the nuclear option, if renewable energies are insufficient to cover needs.
