47 years since the anniversary of the passing of Her Majesty’s Prince… "Muhammad Al-Tabei"

Today, the twenty-fourth of December, is the anniversary of the death of Muhammad Al-Tabei Muhammad Wahba, born on May 18, 1896 in Port Said Governorate, an Egyptian writer and journalist. Al-Tabei studied at the Faculty of Law.

He began his career as an employee in the Egyptian Parliament, and for this reason he was writing his articles in Al-Ahram and Rosal Youssef under the pseudonym “Handus” ; His articles caused many political crises, but his love for journalism overcame him, so he resigned from his government job and devoted himself to writing. Al-Tabi’i was known for carefully verifying information before publishing it.
The late, great Muhammad Al-Tabi’i was considered one of those who had a sarcastic style. When he attacked, his sarcastic style was to give some characters comical names. It was enough for Al-Tabi’i to refer in an article to the comic’s name so that readers would recognize the intended character.
If Al-Tabi’i was influenced by anything, then he was influenced by the art of caricature. Politician, which was widespread in Western countries, and he introduced him to the Egyptian press through the duo he formed with the great Armenian cartoon artist Saroukhan.
Al-Tabi’i was distinguished by his elegance, and from here came his most famous title “Prince of the Egyptian Press.” He was accustomed to tourism in Paris and Geneva, and he has exquisite taste in his choice of clothes, and he only stayed in the most expensive international hotels. He is the only Egyptian journalist who accompanied the royal family on its long trip to Europe in 1937.
Al-Tabi’i founded Akher Sa’a magazine in 1934, and in 1941 he sought to form the first journalists’ union.

Al-Tabei wrote 13 novels, in addition to translating the book “Lord Cecil’s Memoirs.” In the twenties, one of his most famous books is “From the Secrets of Politicians and Politics,” which is considered the autobiography of Ahmed Pasha Hassanein, as well as “Asmahan Tells Her Story.” In addition to many other novels.
His students were Mustafa and Ali Amin in the field of journalism, Ihsan Abdel Quddus in the field of literature, and the great writer Muhammad Hassanein Heikal in the field of politics. Among them is his position in the heart and mind of their teacher, and his student Mustafa Amin said about him: His articles shook governments and brought down ministries, and he was neither afraid nor backed down. Al-Tabei died in 1976 at the age of 80, leaving behind a generation of writers and journalists who owe him credit and appreciation
