المملكة: Adherence to planting dates protects wheat from winter frost
The Agricultural Guidance at the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture stresses the importance of adhering to appropriate planting dates for the wheat crop in various regions of the Kingdom, to avoid the negative effects resulting from frost during the winter.
Frost and reduced wheat productivity
Frost is one of the biggest challenges facing wheat cultivation, as it causes the upper parts of the leaves to dry out, and may leave the ears partially empty if it occurs during the panicle expulsion and flowering phase.
These effects lead to decreased productivity and negative effects on the crop.
Production Support Guidelines
To avoid these risks, agricultural extension advises farmers to adhere to the recommended planting dates for each region according to its climatic conditions.
By knowing the most appropriate time for planting, the chances of protecting the crop from the effects of frost can be improved, and field productivity can be enhanced.
Kingdom Vision 2030
The Ministry also invites farmers to contact agricultural extension offices to obtain updated advice and guidance on crop management and methods of caring for wheat during the critical stages of its growth.
These efforts aim to enhance food security in the Kingdom and ensure the sustainability of agricultural production in line with the Kingdom’s Vision 2030.
Adherence to agricultural recommendations represents an essential step towards achieving a successful agricultural season and protecting crops from difficult climatic conditions, especially during the winter.
