Exhibition closing "Mleiha…an Arab kingdom on the Silk Road" In Japan

Sharjah, December 26 / WAM / Yesterday, the Sharjah Archeology Authority concluded the activities of the “Mleiha…An Arab Kingdom on the Silk Road” exhibition, which was held at the Miho Museum in Japan, under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler. Sharjah, and attracted more than 100,000 visitors, becoming one of the most prominent cultural events that embodied the rich cultural heritage of the Emirate of Sharjah and the United Arab Emirates on the international scene.

The exhibition included more than 160 rare artifacts, including national treasures and valuable cultural properties that highlight the cultural diversity that distinguished the Kingdom of Mleiha, including 40 that are classified as national treasures, and 49 pieces that represent important cultural properties, in addition to recent discoveries that were displayed for the first time.

The exhibits dealt with various aspects of life in Mleiha, including trade, religious beliefs, art and beauty, and social systems.

His Excellency Issa Yousef, Director General of the Sharjah Antiquities Authority, said that the exhibition is an important step within the Authority’s continuing efforts to introduce the world to Sharjah’s cultural heritage, and that the great success it has achieved reflects the strength of its cultural message and its role in enhancing the UAE’s position as a global cultural center.

He added that the exhibition attracting more than 100,000 visitors is not just numbers, but rather represents new bridges of communication built with different peoples and cultures, which is clear evidence of its great impact in enabling awareness of the historical heritage of the Emirates, and the role of Mleiha as a hub for cultural and commercial communication between the East and the West, which embodies The Authority’s vision is to preserve and revive cultural and archaeological heritage, and stresses the importance of investing in historical culture as a fundamental pillar of sustainable development.

For his part, Dr. Sabah Abboud Jassim, Advisor to the Sharjah Antiquities Authority, said that the exhibition came to highlight the pivotal role of the Emirate of Sharjah and the historical Kingdom of Mleiha in shaping the features of human civilization, adding that the Miho Museum’s hosting of this important event constituted a major station to expand the scope of the definition of the Emirati cultural heritage. The exhibition provided an unprecedented opportunity to communicate with the Japanese and international public, who showed widespread interest in the rare artifacts and integrated vision of the region’s history.

He added that the exhibition highlights the commitment of the Sharjah Antiquities Authority to continue its journey in reviving the ancient history of the Emirates and bringing it to the world, by presenting a model that embodies the common human values ​​and peaceful coexistence that prevailed in that era, within a distinguished display of rare collectibles and exceptional cultural evidence.

The Authority’s organization of the exhibition confirms the commitment of the Emirate of Sharjah to its pioneering role in spreading culture and knowledge and promoting civilizational dialogue between peoples.

The exhibition is part of a series of strategic initiatives implemented by the authority that aim to promote cultural and archaeological tourism, which reflects Sharjah’s vision towards presenting a unique model of cultural communication at the regional and international levels, and also highlights the strength of cultural relations between the United Arab Emirates and Japan.
