The Astronomy Institute organizes its annual meeting to review scientific achievements and unify research efforts

The National Institute for Astronomical and Geophysical Research organized the Institute’s annual scientific forum to present the year’s harvest of scientific achievements and the research activities of the various scientific departments, including research projects and services, to achieve the greatest degree of integration and unification of efforts among researchers and raise the quality of scientific research.
Dr. Taha Rabeh, Acting Head of the Center, indicated in a statement today that during the Institute’s annual event, existing research projects were introduced and research experiences were exchanged to reach the highest quality standards. The focus is on the projects that the Institute is working on that serve the national economy, achieve the goals of sustainable development and Egypt’s Vision 2030, and maximize the Institute’s role in participating in industrial projects, community service, and environmental protection.
And among other things: For his part, Dr. Khaled Zahran, Chairman of the Forum, explained that the Forum witnessed, over two days, a summary of the projects and research activities carried out by members of the Institute in its various departments and affiliated regional centers, and the important scientific projects existing at the Institute, most notably the preservation of cultural heritage and the development of an integrated approach. For the sustainable use of groundwater resources in the Western Sahara, and the evaluation of mineral water and thermal water sources in the Ayoun Helwan region for economic exploitation.
He noted that study projects assessing the risks of sea level rise were reviewed. On the saltwater intrusion of the Nile Delta coastal aquifer, land subsidence, and sea level rise around Rosetta City using GPS, tide gauges and satellite technologies, in addition to demonstrating low-cost prototypes of the navigation system Global.
He added that light was shed on the role of scientific research in developing industries, such as the cement companies’ quarry services project and the seismic activity monitoring project for the Dabaa nuclear project, in addition to a number of projects. Specialized scientific research in the field of astronomy and space science, including monitoring and studying transient astronomical phenomena based on astronomical observations, as well as evaluating the pattern of seismic activity in Egypt, and studying the coupling of the lithosphere to the atmosphere and ionosphere before natural hazards. And the discovery and study of space objects, and the effect of weather on the near-Earth space environment.
He pointed out that the administrative activities, and the activities of scientific and cultural signs, entrepreneurship, and community service that had been accomplished were also reviewed. In 2024, in addition to the consultations provided by the various departments, the activities of the institute’s various committees, and future plans to advance the institute.
