The authority said in a statement that the plan will allow patients suffering from certain conditions to obtain referrals from general doctors for examinations, tests and x-rays without the need to see a specialist first.

It aims to provide faster diagnosis for patients and conduct subsequent consultations on the same day of their test or x-ray, according to Bloomberg News Agency.

The authority explained that more private treatment capacity will remain reserved away from requests from seasonal diseases and future epidemics.
“Millions of people will receive faster diagnosis and treatment, ensuring routine care is delivered to nine out of ten patients within 18 weeks,” the NHS said.
